Pussy Bites Back
On January 21, 2017, London joined a global movement as thousands participated in the Women's March, expressing solidarity with international efforts advocating for women's rights, equality, and social justice. This demonstration coincided with the inauguration of President Donald Trump, serving as a powerful statement against policies perceived as threats to women's rights and broader human rights issues. The title "Pussy Bites Back" draws inspiration from the "pussy hat" phenomenon, where participants donned pink, cat-ear hats as a form of protest against Trump's controversial remarks about women. In a 2005 recording, Trump made derogatory comments about women, famously using the word "pussy" in a context that sparked widespread outrage. The "pussy hat" movement, therefore, became a symbolic act of reclaiming that term, transforming it from an insult into a symbol of empowerment and defiance against misogyny. This series offers an intimate look at the faces and expressions of those who stood together in unity, capturing the essence of a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle for equality and justice. Through these images, I aim to document the collective resolve and the diverse voices that came together to assert that women's rights are human rights.
